A Once Was Tramp And Tree Songtext - Urusen

A Once Was Tramp And Tree - Urusen

Tramp on the root and lean on the bark
Worn as a boot the fingers work hard
He leans on the tree by the path that he laid
The house that he built, the wall that he made
When he tried to make, he tried to make a start

Stood like a fighter leant into fire
When it grew bitter then he would tire
And beat by the fist of the wind in his face
He dug his legs in from the blusters that chased
And he tried to sing but his voice was half of heart

He stared out from his kitchen sill
And you looked down the ridge of the hill
At the man unprepared
For a storm that now stared
Down on you
So we wait for a night or two

“Oh storm I have known you all of my life
Your fear and your fury cut like a knife”
The roof of this house is torn from its walls
The look in the eye, a momentary pause
“So hit me goodbye, I’ll meet you once more I’m sure”

He stared out from his broken sill
And you gazed down the ridge of the hill
“There’s a gap in the view that each of us knew
That it’s time to fill
And I hope that we’ll make do”

So pass me down to where you once raised me
And saw this crown that I own
For I’ll be found where you will lay me
To hold these walls to keep you safe
Until the day
The storm returns
