Happily Never After Songtext - Matisse

Happily Never After - Matisse

Odd as it seems I invite you to a place
Where it is hard to discern any face
Over the shore cliffs
Under the moon
A harpist waits in
A bedroom

Don’t be afraid
I don’t know any spells
We can be led by the jackal’s yells
Through poisoned darkness
A blood dripping moon
Out of dark waters
We’ll come soon.

From all that’s real I wish for dreams
From what’s unreal I pick moonbeams

All I’d forgotten
And all I’ve felt
My sleeping beauties
My cards had dealt
Over the oceans
My siren’s croon
A harpy fled from
My sad tune

No one is there
To light up the gate
How can we know when it’s not too late
Under a threshold
The waning moon after our crossing
Will wax soon

From all that’s real I wish for dreams
From what’s unreal I pick moonbeams

The darkest hour is before the dawn
Beyond this night one could be reborn

And it was you who showed me the way
But for some reason neglected to say

After I set my senses afire
How can I live with all this desire
