I am the cat that walks alone,
I have no past and no recall,
The daytime passes into dusk,
The golden motes of dust still dance
But there’s no living for me here,
I must move on, the call is clear.
And you won’t notice me at all,
The night is dark and we’re all grey,
A shape that shifts in shadow’s play,
An eye that gleams and then lets die,
The moment soft as silken down,
You’re not listening, so you can’t hear.
And I watch you so carefully,
Your tricks and habits I absorb,
The way you light a cigarette,
The drink, the chat, the pointless play,
Your earrings swing and catch the light,
My spirit walks, in that thin spark.
I am the cat that walks alone,
I hunt in silence, then I’m gone,
My fire burns fierce, but it’s contained,
You only thought you caught a glimpse,
A trick d light, so hard to say,
You’ll sleep forever, and I move on...
