Burying Geraldine Songtext - Freakwater

Burying Geraldine - Freakwater

My niece forgot her flowers
So we cracked the lid
Lord, Lord
I saw her face as the sunlight flooded in
She wore six roses
And a badge across her chest
Lord, Lord
Like a little shoebox
With a tiny bird within

The heat blazing beat against my face
Lord, Lord
I picked a shovel from the pile in which they lay
I felt it's heft and it's bite along it's edge
Lord, Lord
A fitting partner to dance away the day
They spoke some hollow words
That I didn't hear
Lord, Lord
I watched the flowers sway
As they lowered mama down
We threw the dirt down hard upon the lid
Lord, Lord
And it give me a chill
Like the faintest knocking sound

She comes to me at night
And visits in my dreams
Lord, Lord
But all those years they seem to burn away
And all of those voices
They're hard to retrieve
Lord, Lord
As I stand above the place in which they lay

My niece forgot her flowers
So we cracked the lid
Lord, Lord
I saw her face as the sunlight flooded in
She wore six roses
And a badge across her chest
Lord, Lord
Like a little shoebox
With a tiny bird within
