Teiman Songtext - Ari Goldwag

Teiman - Ari Goldwag

From Teiman to Eretz Yisroel,
we crossed the desert sand
Our eyes and hearts were shining
with the hope of the promised land
But our dreams were cruelly shattered,
so mistaken was our trust
For our heritage was taken
and trampled in the dust

Our legacy was laughed at,
our costumes met with scorn
Our clothes were made a mockery,
our payos cruelly shorn
And so many of our children
disappeared without a trace
And my eldest son was stolen
now no one can fill his place

Chorus:
Where are you today
my child for whom I pray
I wonder if you're happy,
I wonder if you know that
You belong to someone else,
you belong to me

I recall that bitter moment
when they told us you were gone
I thought my heart was breaking,
didn't know how I'd go on
For a voice within me whispered
you were still alive somewhere
But I knew I couldn't find you,
I was helpless with despair

We asked where you'd been buried,
so we'd have a place to cry
But so many of our questions
were answered with a lie
Now the tearing pain of loss remains
with us throughout the years
And my heart continues grieving,
no, I can not stop the tears

Chorus

Were you taught to read the Alef Beis,
do you say Shema at night
Have you felt the joy of Shabbos
when the candles are alight
Do you know you were Bar Mitzvah,
on Yom Kippur, do you fast
Were you told that you are rooted
in a proud and ancient past

Do you know you have a family
whom you haven't even met
They ask about you always, they never will forget
And each Friday night, I pray for you,
when the Shabbos candles shine
For a mother is forever, and forever you'll be mine
